To connect to a VPN, you need to enter configuration settings in Network settings. These settings include the VPN server address (which you get from your VPN provider), account name and any authentication settings, such as a password or a certificate.

Contact your VPN service provider for information you need to enter in order to connect to their VPN.

If you have a VPN settings file that you received from your VPN service provider, you can just double-click it to set up the connection, if not, you have to enter the settings manually. To do that, do the following:

  1. On your Mac choose the Apple menu > System settings > VPN in the sidebar (you might need to scroll down).
  2. Click Add VPN Configuration, then choose the type on VPN connection you want to set up.
  3. In the Display Name, enter a name for the VPN service.
  4. Use the Default configuration if you don't need multiple configurations.
  5. Enter settings for the new VPN service. They might be server address, account name, password and authentication method.
  6. If you need to enter any additional settings, do so.
  7. Click Create.
