If your router is compatible with VPN, then the first thing you need to do is choose and buy a VPN subscription. When you have that covered, you need to follow a few simple steps:

  1. Open the router configuration panel. You do that by opening a web browser, typing in your router's IP address in the address bar (just like you would an URL) and pressing Enter. Enter the router's username and password and you should be logged in and able to change your network settings.

                    If you don't know how to find the your router's IP address here are some more tips:

                   * on Windows:

                       Click Windows start button, type "cmd" in search bar to open Command Prompt App and open it, in Command Prompt window type in "ipconfig" and press                        Enter. The numbers displayed next to "Default Gateway" are your router's IP address.

                    * on iOS:

                       Open System Preferences, click on Network then Advanced in the bottom right corner of the window, on top of the window click TCP/IP tab and you should                        see your router's IP address displayed next to the word Router.

  1. Find the VPN Client tab/option (NOT VPN Server). Normally this is found in the advanced settings of the router. If you cannot find it, then your router does not support VPN.
  2. Enter the correct settings by following your VPN provider's guidelines.
  3. Check that your connection is VPN protected. Do that by checking your IP address, which should be different to the one at the beginning.
